Nature wins!

Thanks to the Buzzards Bay Coalition, more than 400 acres of beaches, forests, fields, salt marshes and coastal farmland along Nasketucket Bay in Fairhaven and Mattapoisett has been preserved.

With some extra assistance from federal, state and town organizations the land, including 135 acres in Fairhaven and 281 acres in Mattapoisett, will be saved from any development.

Half of the land will be available to the public, while the rest will be left untouched. That land is exclusive to wildlife, no houses or businesses allowed!

Along with preservation, the coalition revealed they will open the Shaw Trail, which runs about a mile from the bike trail near the DeNormandie Farm to Nasketucket Bay State Reservation.

Brendan Annett, vice president of watershed protection for Buzzard’s Bay Coalition says, “There’s a huge amount of area for outdoor recreation. The area allows visitors land for hiking, birding, running and fishing.”

The coalition’s efforts began in 2011 and now their mission to keep Buzzard’s Bay clean is becoming a reality.

I love hearing stories like this, sometimes I'm such a tree hugging nature lover!
