Lowell Police Go Above and Beyond for 80-Year-Old Resident
Reckless driving is the cause of so many accidents, often leading to damaged vehicles, but the latest incident to come out of Lowell was a reckless driver damaging an elderly woman’s groceries. Luckily, this story has a happy ending.
The Lowell Police Department shared on its Facebook that they received a "thank you" letter in the mail from a grateful sister. The letter explains that her 80-year-old sister was being dropped off at her residence after a grocery store run when an out-of-control driver ran over her groceries. Two men were walking by at the time, now identified as Officer Daly and Firefighter Lyle, and quickly ran to this woman’s assistance.
The two men decided to take it one step further and personally replace her damaged groceries, dropping them off just a few hours later. In the letter, the sister writes, “In these trying times it is uplifting to see such beyond the call of duty thoughtfulness.”
This story has since gone viral with hundreds of comments, praising these two men for going above and beyond what is asked of them.
One woman wrote in the comments, “A true example of what it means to SERVE and protect, Thank you LPD!”
A few people were inquiring about the reckless driver and if any charges were handed out, but at this time, the LPD has not reported any charges.
These stories warm my heart. It feels like every day I am bombarded by horrific news stories and depressing headlines, so when I come across a story like this, I can’t help but share it.
Hats off to you, Officer Daly and Firefighter Lyle; thank you for leading by example.
