Lakeville Firefighters Rescue 1,000-Pound Horse Named Magic
Another day, another animal rescue.
It seems to be the trend on the SouthCoast lately. Luckily, another four-legged friend has been saved thanks to the heroic actions of Lakeville firefighters.
On the evening of Monday, May 18, 2026, the Lakeville Fire Department responded to a call of a downed horse.
How Magic the Horse Became Trapped in Lakeville
When firefighters arrived, they came across the 1,000-pound horse named Magic. According to the fire department, the horse "decided to roll in some dirt and was unable to get back up. The area was a bit depressed, and the horse is older."
Specialized Rescue Teams Were Called In
"Dr. Kendyl Foristall from Highland Hill Veterinary Service was requested to the scene, and the Plymouth County Technical Rescue Team was activated," the department said.

Why Large Animal Rescue Requires Special Training
"The Technical Rescue Team frequently deploys for large animal rescue incidents and is equipped with specialized equipment designed to safely conduct these operations," the fire department said.
Luckily, the protocol for rescuing the horse was something the crew knew how to handle. The Lakeville Fire Department and Beland Stable have worked together in the past for large animal rescue training.

Magic’s Recovery After the Rescue
"Initially, Magic was a bit unsteady, but he quickly recovered enough to have a meet and greet with many of his rescuers before crews cleared the scene," the department said.
"The Department is incredibly proud to see this training and collaboration put into action to safely rescue Magic," the fire department said.
