The driver was ejected from the vehicle, sustaining injuries described by the department as "significant," and was taken to Rhode Island Hospital by ambulance.

A four-year-old passenger was unharmed in the crash as she was properly restrained in a car seat, the fire department noted.

The child was also taken to Providence.
Before first responders arrived, the department said a passing motorist stopped to help the crash victims.
According to the department, the unknown woman comforted the little girl until ambulance crews arrived.
They said she was able to calm the upset child — even getting her to smile and laugh.
The Lakeville Fire Department wrote in a Facebook post, "We do not know the good samaritan’s identity but would like to say thank you!"
They also thanked the Freetown Fire Department for sending assistance.
