DA Releases Details After Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting in Lakeville

LAKEVILLE (WBSM) — The man shot by police in Lakeville on Saturday has died from his injuries.

Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz said Gregory Buckley, 31, was pronounced deceased after arriving at Morton Hospital in Taunton Saturday afternoon following the officer-involved shooting.

Lakeville Police Respond to Heritage Hill Well-Being Check

Lakeville Police responded at about 1:58 p.m. on September 26 to 8 Heritage Hill after a resident walked into the police station requesting a well-being check on a family member with a firearm who was disturbed and acting erratically.

Officers arrived at the residence and were let in by the person who had reported the situation. When officers entered a second-floor bedroom, they encountered Buckley. Police said he was pointing a firearm at the officers.

Armed Confrontation and Fatal Gunfire

Police ordered Buckley to drop the firearm, but he refused. Gunfire was exchanged, and Buckley was struck. Police immediately rendered first aid to him. He was taken to Morton Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Officers Released from Hospital as State Police Investigate

Four Lakeville Police officers were also taken to the hospital for evaluation and were released.

The D.A.’s Office said footage of the incident was captured on the officers’ body-worn cameras.

The incident remains under investigation by Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the D.A.’s Office.
