Lake Compounce Aims to Make History for Largest Ugly Sweater Event Ever

The holidays are quickly approaching, and they will be filled with all things magical and beautiful, but there is one particular trend that embraces the “ugly." Ugly sweaters have become essential in celebrating the holiday season, and Lake Compounce is jumping on board the trend in a big way as they look to set a world record during the grand opening of Holiday Lights 2021.

When the ugly sweater trend was just beginning, you hoped to find a hidden gem in your grandmother’s closet, but nowadays, shelves are stocked with holiday sweaters adorned with Santas, snowmen, and holiday sayings. I am not ashamed to say I have three myself, but it will take more than three sweaters to break a record of most ugly sweaters worn at an Ugly Sweater Party.

“This is our first time actually doing the event,” said Lynsey Winters, Regional Relations Manager for the park. “Last year, a lot of parks had drive-thru events or nothing at all, so we just wanted to make this season a little extra special.”

Winters explained how no one really got the chance to rock their favorite ugly sweater last year, and feels like this event is a fun way to celebrate the return of Holiday Lights.

The current record for most ugly sweaters at one event sits around 3,000, so Lake Compounce is aiming to gather at least 3,500 people, dressed in their ugliest.

“We will also be working with our sister parks, and for the first time (according to our research), a cross-country attempt will be made,” Winters said.

The Ugly Sweater Party will be the kick-off to Lake Compounce’s Holiday Lights on November 26.
