If you were smart enough to be sipping cocktails at Sunset Cove in Portsmouth, Rhode Island last Sunday, then you were one of the lucky people to be treated by a surprise performance by the legendary Jimmy Buffett.
The iconic musician made an impromptu appearance during a fun-filled afternoon at the popular café on Park Avenue, and it was met with shocked faces, raised glasses, and heartfelt cheers to see Mr. Margaritaville, himself.
Singer and Songwriter Mac MacAnally was treating the crowd to some feel-good music and while performing a cover of Alan Jackson’s “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere," he proudly sang the line, “At a moment like this, I can’t help but wonder, what would Jimmy Buffett do?”
With that clever introduction, Jimmy took the stage and soon, the entire crowd was on their feet.
Alongside the Coral Reefers, the legendary musician played some classics, posed for a picture with local police officers, and enjoyed a cocktail to salute his return to the stage.
“Nothing better than a surprise performance by Jimmy Buffett!” said Sunset Cove. “We’ve never seen so many smiles at one time!”
Buffett’s surprise performance was a joyous occasion after his health struggles back in May.
CNN reported Buffett was forced to cancel a performance in May after being hospitalized, but the singer was out a few days later and made it clear that he wasn’t done with performing for his adoring fans, saying that “playing music is as therapeutic for me as it is for fans to listen and sing along.”
Buffett proved he’s still got it after decades of being the life of the party and Sunset Cove proved they have a few summertime tricks up their sleeve for its loyal customers.
Summertime in New England is officially Jimmy Buffett-approved.
