Jem Has It’s Own Convention
As a child of the 80s I loved watching Jem and the Holograms. It was right up there with She-Ra as my favorite cartoon and when I learned of a movie remake a few months ago I was very excited. And now I have more reason to be psyched about Jem!
This past weekend I discovered that Jem fans have been coming together for years for an event called Jemcon. Yes, a convention dedicated to Jem is a real thing that has been happening every year since 2005!
Jemcon has been as close as New Hampshire and as far away as The Netherlands over the years and seems to draw fans from all over the world! This year's Jemcon is going to be in Toronto, which is fun cause they get to call the event "Truly Outrageous in Toronto."
I personally have never dressed as Jem (though this Halloween could totally change that), but there is a fashion design contest that happens at Jemcon. They also run a fan fiction contest, an album art contest and more.
Plus you can meet some of the people behind the hit show, like artists, writers and voice actors. This year they have scored Jem herself! Voice actress Samantha Newark, voice of Jem/Jerrica/Jamie will be on a panel along with series creator Christy Marx and the voice of Rapture Ellen Gerstell presumably answering fan questions, taking photos and signing autographs.
This sounds like a good year for Jem fans who have never been to a Jemcon before. So if you are a Jem superfan and want to make the trek, Jemcon is happening September 26th-28th at the Hilton Toronto Airport Hotel & Suites.
