The much anticipated 'Dumb And Dumber' sequel 'Dumb And Dumber To' hits theaters this weekend, but before I get to that, let's back track to the original for a minute.

Back to 1994, Dumb and Dumber was being made and the actors were being cast. The Farrelly Brothers were looking to get Jim Carrey to star in their movie, so they offered him $350,000. He counter offered with $400,000, they wouldn't budge, so he said no to doing the movie. Then Ace Ventura: Pet Detective was released and it did very well, raising Carrey's price even more. The Farrelly Brothers agreed to give him his requested $400,000, but he said not so fast, just coming off of a #1 film, he was now requesting $500,000. The Farrelly's balked at that, but Ace Ventura was still #1 at the box office, so now Carrey wanted $750,000. They went back and forth on a price tag for a while, because eventually Jim Carrey was able to squeak 7 million out of the deal! The budget for the movie itself was 16 million dollars, and 7 of that went to Mr. Carrey.

Now, as far as casting the other lead male role, the Farrelly brothers did not want Jeff Daniels in their movie. In fact, they were quoted as saying, "Please, anyone but him, get a comedic actor." They didn't want him in the movie, but he was presenting himself as an option, so they figured if they offered him a super low sum of money, he'd say no and they'd be able to get someone else. Well, their plan blew up in their face. They offered him $50,000 and he said YES!

Now, wait a minute. That's a gigantic difference in pay for the two stars! In Carrey's defense, he had good timing...he had a number 1 film under his belt and was in a position to get what he wanted. When it all was said and done, Jim Carrey walked away with a cool 7 million and poor Jeff Daniels only got $50 grand. All in all, 'Dumb and Dumber' made 247 million dollars worldwide.

The sequel to the slapstick comedy opens this weekend, and hopefully Jeff Daniels doesn't get the short of end of the money stick this time around!
