Many students across the SouthCoast are spending their summers interning to hopefully get ahead in their chosen careers.

From my own experience, I can say an internship was so important to my career. It's a foot in the door. More importantly, it's an opportunity to see a career before you decide what you want to do.

I remember very clearly back in the year 2003 when I applied for my internship here at Fun 107. I was in high school and had no idea what I wanted to be when I grew up. I was just thinking, how cool would an internship at a radio station be? Especially one I grew up listening to.

I was so thankful that the late JR gave me an internship and then ultimately my first chance to crack the mic.

Today, if you are an intern or about to start applying to internships for the fall, don't forget to take full advantage of the opportunity. Ask all the questions. Do all the things, Not matter how small or simple the task is, the answer should be yes.

Employers, make sure that today you show your interns you appreciate their tenacity and energy in your offices. Their eagerness and curiosity should remind you why you do what you do and share your knowledge and wisdom with them.

It's because of the opportunities for an internship that I was able to find a career I love and have had an amazing run with so far.

Happy National Intern Day!
