Grocery Store Bread Tags Decoded
Whether its a weekly trip or once every few days, we find ourselves in the grocery store frequently. While purchasing items we scour the shelves in search of the freshest, best-looking, non-expired foods to add to our carts.
A staple on many grocery lists is bread. You may be toasting it in the morning, using it as a base for your sandwich or simply snacking on a piece. When you select your favorite loaf off the shelf, you eye one thing: the expiration date.
Did you know that there's another indicator on the bread that can be very helpful and even sway your decision to select a certain loaf?

Keep an Eye Out for Bread Tags at the Market
It's the bread tag. Yes, the one that holds the twist at the top together to seal up the bread. They come in various colors, but have you ever wondered why, or what they mean?
The colors of the bread tags indicate the day of the week in which the bread was baked and packaged.
What Day of the Week Do Bread Tags Indicate?
Here's a breakdown of bread tags that may help you on your next trip to the market.
Monday – Blue
Tuesday – Green
Wednesday – Red
Thursday – White
Friday – Yellow
It's important to note that this is not always indicated depending on the brand or bakery from which you purchase your bread from, but most large markets follow this rule of thumb.
Again, the expiration date is important, but if you want a loaf of bread made recently, keep these colors in mind on your next grocery run.
Happy shopping!
