Friendly's has been around for decades, but now the ice cream chain is trying to update their image with additions like drive-thrus.

I'm not sure the car is the best place for ice cream, but Friendly's restaurants plan to offer more drive-thrus at locals across the state.

They first launched one in Westfield about two year ago and more recently remodeled the Marlborough location with a complete reinvention in mind.

The new prototype Friendly's will officially open on Monday and according to WCVB will feature a new, more open look to the restaurant as well as a limited menu at their drive-thru window.

The Marlborough Friendly's is what all Friendly's could look like as the company tries to start fresh after their 2011 Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.

Though there are other Friendly's with drive-thrus, this one has the newest equipment that means the food is cooked faster.

No word on when this new look and drive-thru option could be coming to the Southcoast, but the company does plan to expand this concept to all 250 of their stores in 15 states.

For now I guess we'll have to be happy with Friendly's delivery out of Fall River.
