If you are a fan of the Halloween season and all that goes with it, I would recommend making the two hour drive to a city that is synonymous with Halloween, Salem, Massachusetts.  Thousands of people flock to "The Witch City" every October to see the attractions based on the famous witch trials.

The tourism rush to Salem really took off back in the early 1970's when the TV sitcom Bewitched filmed several episodes in the city.   It grew even more after the movie Hocus Pocus, starring Bette Midler and Sarah Jessica Parker was filmed in Salem.

One of the most popular houses in Salem The Witch House, the only building in the city with direct ties to the witch trials of 1692.  It's owned and operated by the city as a historic house museum.   Other places in the city worth checking out are the House of the Seven Gables and Burying Point, the cemetery that has the graves of a Mayflower pilgrim and witchcraft trial judge John Hathorne.   Another attraction you may want to visit is Gallows Hill Park.   Legend has it that the execution of Salem's witches happened near this site.

Salem also has a haunted passport program that offers visitors discounts and benefits from local tourist attractions and stores from October through April.   If you've never been, this is the perfect time of year to consider a new Halloween experience.
