Mattapoisett Seniors Surprise Students with Fun Flash Mob at Lunch
On Thursday, lunchtime at Old Rochester Regional High School in Mattapoisett got a little groovy when the entire cafeteria broke out in dance. They had plenty to celebrate, and thanks to the senior class council, the flash mob was a huge success.
“I had no idea it was going to happen,” said Reagan Rock, junior at ORRHS. “Our lunch lady was retiring so we danced for her, and also it was the seniors' last day, so it was a fun celebration.”
ORRHS shared the exciting day on Facebook.
In the middle of a sea of kids enjoying their lunch, a member of the senior class council stood up, microphone in hand.
“We have a special song that we are going to encourage everyone to get up and dance to, but before we do that, we also wanted to recognize Lynn, our lovely lunch lady,” he said. The crowd erupted as Lynn waved to her supportive students.
“YMCA” by The Village People blared through the speakers, and one by one, the students got up from their seats and let loose in honor of Lynn.
The flash mob was also a fun send-off for the graduating class, who was having their very last lunch as high school students. The party continued with “Cupid Shuffle” and “Cotton-Eyed Joe.”
The pure joy on their faces brought me back to my senior year of high school when the final days of school were near, and the only care in the world was making the most of the upcoming summer.
Lynn must be excited to retire, but I'm sure she will hold on to that memory for a very long time.
Congratulations to the graduating seniors and to the beloved lunch lady, Lynn!
