Fall River Residents Injured After Jumping Out of Window to Escape Fire

FALL RIVER — Two Fall River residents are being treated at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford for injuries they sustained when their single family home caught fire early Tuesday morning.

According to a post from IAFF L-1314, the Fall River firefighters union, fire crews were called to flames reported at 153 Ray St. at around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Fire was showing out of three second-floor windows and flames were coming through the roof, the union said in the post.

Before the firefighters arrived, two occupants of the home — a man and a woman — had to jump out of a second floor window at the back of the house to escape the blaze.

They jumped onto a lower roof before getting to the ground, and were taken to St. Luke's Hospital for treatment of their injuries, according to the union.

"We wish them a speedy recovery," the post reads.

No firefighters were injured and crews knocked out most of the flames by just after 4 a.m.

In total, four engine companies along with one ladder truck, Platform 1, Rescue 1, and Car 2 responded to the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
