Fairhaven Parents Fitness Group’s Journey to Mother’s Day 5K Race
Sarah Freshman and Erin Cate are more than the co-owners of iStroll Southcoast; they are the driving forces behind a thriving community of parents in Fairhaven. At iStroll Southcoast, fitness isn't just about breaking a sweat — it's about building connections and supporting one another through the journey of parenthood.
iStoll Southcoast offers fitness classes five days a week and parents can bring their kids along, eliminating the need for childcare. Monthly parent nights out and other social events provide opportunities for parents to connect and share experiences.
One of the most anticipated events on iStroll Southcoast's calendar is the Mother’s Day 5K, set for Sunday, May 11, starting from Cisco Kitchen & Bar in New Bedford. This event holds special significance for the program's members, as it showcases their dedication to fitness and their journey towards achieving their goals, both physical and personal.
Leading up to the 5K, iStroll Southcoast's "Run Club" has been diligently preparing, with 15 members gearing up to participate in the race. For many of these individuals, this will be their first 5K, an achievement made possible through months of hard work, support and encouragement from fellow parents and instructors.
Erin Cate, co-owner of iStroll Southcoast, reflected on the transformative journey of the participants. Through the program’s "couch to 5k/return to running program," participants have improved their physical fitness and experienced significant personal growth. For parents, especially moms, who may have put their fitness goals on hold while prioritizing their children, crossing the finish line of a 5K represents a powerful moment of empowerment and self-discovery.
