Ever since James Robertson's 1988 Honda Accord broke down over a decade ago,  he's been walking to work. But it's not your every day run-of-the-mill stroll down the street, he walks 21 MILES to get to work!  Robertson makes $10.55 an hour and can't afford a new car, or the expenses that come along with a car, like maintenance and insurance.  So, he's been making the 21-mile trek to work on foot, in all types of weather, instead.  Since he has such a long way to walk, he leaves his house at 8am to make sure he's on time for his shift that starts at 2pm at Schain Mold & Engineering.

"I do what I have to do to get to work in the morning. It's just a part of my life.  My parents taught me hard work ethic growing up in Detroit." he told People magazine.

Robertson had a story written about him in a local Detroit newspaper and that inspired college student Evan Leedy, to help him out.  Leedy recalled people asking where they could donate money to help Robertson. So he set up a GoFundMe page with a goal of $5,000 for him, in hopes to get him a car.  Well, he certainly surpassed his goal, and collected a whopping $149,000 in just one day!

I do what I have to do to get to work in the morning. It's just a part of my life.  My parents taught me hard work ethic growing up in Detroit.

Robertson and Leedy connected somehow and were able to meet this past Monday night!

"It was so amazing to finally meet James," Leedy said. "I am really just so happy people trusted that the money was going to him so we can help turn his life around. He deserves it."

Robertson says he was stunned by the series of events, and adds "I would have told you that you were crazy a few days ago."

James Robertson said he took this all as a sign that it was time for him to finally get behind the wheel again, and he's looking forward to his walking days coming to an end.
