When the Feast of the Blessed Sacrament was forced to cancel in 2021 due to the pandemic, the special events committee came up with a more exclusive event that allowed the SouthCoast to return to New Bedford's beloved Madeira Field.

Not only is the committee bringing back the largest Portuguese feast in the world this year, but on June 18, the second annual Craft Beer and Food Truck Festa will return, too, bringing together good food, good drinks and good company.

Jim Vieira, treasurer and special events chairman for the Craft Beer and Food Truck Festa, was thrilled about the success of last year’s event.

“People were just happy to be back on the (Madeira) grounds,” he said. “It was something fun for people to do safely, and we wanted to make it different from the feast, so we made it more exclusive.”

The Feast is always a sea of people, but this smaller festa allowed for a more comfortable experience.

“You’re not shoulder-to-shoulder with everyone. There was more room to walk around and have a good time,” said Vieira.

Vieira and the committee aim to bring that same vibe for 2022 by only selling a select number of tickets, and he’s confident it will sell out fast.

What to Expect

Foodies and beer lovers can expect the best of the best when it comes to bites and brews.

“We went with all local breweries. It’s a good way to promote them and support them,” said Vieira. But don’t worry, Madeira wine will also be available.

And the food trucks will not disappoint, so I recommend showing up hungry.

Tickets for the 2nd annual Craft Beer and Food Truck Festa go on sale at 8 a.m. on May 14.
