“CAPE COOOOOD!” wrote O’Hara online as the space station passed by Massachusetts.
“I happened to catch a perfect pass over the Cape and Islands while lifting weights yesterday,” she shared. “Hope everyone enjoyed the gorgeous winter day!”
With the clouds dispersed and a mild winter day below, the images O’Hara captured are crystal clear and show the true beauty of our little nook of the world.
And it turns out this astronaut has ties to the SouthCoast, making her excitement all the more endearing.
Who Is Loral O’Hara?
Loral O’Hara joined NASA in August of 2017 after earning her Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Kansas and a Master of Science in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Purdue University. She was born in Houston, Texas, but most recently resided in Woods Hole.
O’Hara was a Research Engineer at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) and spent eight years working on the engineering and operations of underwater vehicles, such as the human-occupied research submersible Alvin and the remotely operated vehicle Jason.
Such a cool moment caught 254 miles above us. Thank you to O’Hara for sharing the otherworldly moment!
The SouthCoast may be beautiful on land, but it shines brightly from space, too.
