We got an interesting call this morning on The MGM Show. It was from a woman who found out this past summer that her husband had been cheating on her. Her initial reaction was to kick her husband out of the house, but now that she has gone through all of the expected emotions, she has been thinking about the idea of reconciling for the children and seeing where that takes their relationship.

Is 'Once a Cheater, Always a Cheater' Really True?

The caller told us that she’s always believed in the saying, “Once a cheater, always a cheater,” but her sister is trying to get her to be more open-minded. Her sister, who is a therapist, believes people can learn from their mistakes and that her husband, while not perfect, has positive qualities to offer to their marriage.

Naturally, it would be a given that any reconciliation would come with a solemn promise to stay faithful. In other words, as long as he didn’t cheat again, she would be able to classify his transgression as a terrible mistake.

What Do Past Cheaters Think?

The caller then did something interesting. She wanted to hear from MGM audience members who have cheated in the past. She wanted to ask past cheaters their opinion on whether or not they believed that the “once a cheater, always a cheater” saying was true.

One Caller Admits to Cheating Right Now

A woman immediately called the show, admitting that she has been cheating on her husband for the past six months with a guy from work. “I’m just someone trying to be happy with my life,” she said.

When asked if she would carry the label of cheater forever, she said, “I didn’t cheat before this.” When we asked if cheating once does not necessarily mean she would cheat again, she said, “Yeah, maybe, I don’t know.”

Her conclusion was clear. “So my cheating is justified, in my opinion," she said.
