As if this week weren't rough enough across Massachusetts, Tom Brady is dealing us all another blow.

In a couple of early morning posts across his social media, Brady announced that "it is time for [him] to open a new stage for [his] life and career."

Yup, he is leaving the Patriots for parts unknown.

Honestly I did not think this was going to happen. I personally was convinced he was just having fun with his free agency and the possibility of talking with other teams for the first time in his 20 year career, but that ultimately he would be back on the field in Gillette Stadium next season.

Clearly I was wrong.

And though there is no word on where he will end up playing, it will be strange to see him in any other uniform.

Of course in true Brady form he was nothing but professional and kind in his announcement.

He wrote a heartfelt thank you post to his teammates, coaches, the executives and staff, Coach Belichick, Robert Kraft and entire Kraft family telling them he was "privileged to have had the opportunity to know each and everyone of [them]."

He then followed that up with a post specifically for the fans thanking them for all their support and "the happiest two decades [he] could have envisioned in [his] life."

Both posts were no doubt tearjerkers for many that read them as well as full of incredibly shocking news.

But it is now official. Tom Brady will no longer be a Patriot.

And I for one am sad.
