Patriots Preview: Can New England ‘Squish the Fish’ in ’80s Throwback Uniforms?
If we're all being honest, not many knowledgeable New England fans predicted that the Patriots were going to open the season with a win over an Eagles team that ended its 2022 season with a Super Bowl appearance.
They were right.
The Patriots lost the game, and their record shows it. But was there a — gasp — moral victory?
Moral Victory Over Eagles?
"It's funny. That's been the conversation all week," ABC6 Sports Director Nick Coit said. "I think you take a lot out of that Eagles game. I guess week one you don't win the game, but you take the reigning NFC champions right to the end. You had an opportunity to win. There are some aspects I guess you could say it was a moral victory. The offense looked a lot better. Mac Jones looked back to form. The defense was really, really good. Maybe that's the definition of a moral victory.
Dolphins Week 2
Sunday night's game features the Patriots against a high-powered Dolphins team that looks very sharp offensively.
"The Patriots need to contain, not stop, Tyreek Hill, which is not an easy task, but for some reason, Jonathon Jones is Tyreek Hill's kryptonite. We could talk all about the defensive matchups, but they've got to score. The offense needs to continue to make progress and look as good as it did last week. If they can do that and their defense can play as well as it did in week one, they'll have an opportunity to win the game.
Coit's Prediction
Coit says he is picking the Patriots over the Miami Dolphins.
"Maybe I'm crazy, but I liked what I saw last week. I think they're hungry. It's a big spot for them. I like their defense against this Miami offense. I think they can slow them down, and I like their matchup against Tyreek Hill.
"I'll take the Patriots by a field goal."
Back In Time
The Patriots will wear their '80s throwback uniforms complete with their Pat Patriot helmets for the game on Sept. 24 at 1 p.m.
Here's to hoping they can "Squish The Fish."
