Boston has landed in the country's top five most caring cities, which might surprise folks in Massachusetts.

For example: Have you ever been stuck in Boston traffic? Not everyone is kind in that situation.

An annual list released by Wallethub has named Boston the No. 2 most caring city in America. The ranking service claims it used 38 factors to determine the result.

Here's a deeper look.

Boston ranks No. 1 specifically in caring for those in the workforce. I won't argue with that; we have one of the highest minimum wages in the country and pretty strict laws in place to protect workers. The city also gets points for low crime rates and community engagement (volunteering, helping the needy). High scores in these two departments definitely boosted us to No. 2 overall.

Maybe it's time we reevaluate our endearing nickname, "Massh*les."
