It's Cinco de Mayo 2022 and I've already died and gone to heaven.

During this morning's Michael and Maddie Show, live from Mi Antojo Mexican Restaurant over on South 2nd Street in New Bedford, I saw a menu item that caught my eye.

Since the dawn of TikTok, I kept seeing and hearing about these incredible-looking street tacos called Birria Tacos. I felt as though everyone and their mother had tried these bad boys, and I was the last one on earth.

Well, today was the day.

I asked the owner Javier's son Edwin if he wouldn't mind whipping up a batch and my expectations were blown right out the window.

Here, I have proof of pure joy and emotion:

Honestly, it was the dipping sauce for me. The au jus was rich and flavorful, topped with cilantro, onion and a dash of freshly squeezed lime juice. As if you were making homemade turkey gravy from the drippings, that's the exact same idea as the dipping broth and it's worth the wait.

The taco was cheesy, melty, savory and piping hot out of the kitchen. The soft tortilla shell was perfectly fried and stuffed with juicy strips of beef and loaded with a cheese blend and queso con fresco.

Although this trendy meal is all over social media, I'm so glad I got the opportunity to savor the moment and enjoy an authentic and delicious Mexican dish that was just as tasty as it looked.

If you're someone who enjoys Mexican food, then I highly recommend the Birria Tacos.
