Vivian Bailey grew up in the South during a time where segregation was second nature. As a result, she never had the opportunity to go on a field trip. "Only the white kids were allowed to," she said. Yesterday, at 97-years-old, the school volunteer lived a lifelong dream of going on a field trip to a very special place...the White House!

Not only did she take a tour, but she met the President and Vice President too! Mrs. Bailey is a volunteer at Howard County's Running Brook Elementary School. The Army veteran has raised money for the students to go on field trips for many years.

The school's principal and a teacher accompanied Bailey on her second field trip. Her first field trip ever was to the U.S. Capitol. After that, she mentioned to the students that she's always wanted to visit the White House. Well someone heard about her story and wanted to make her dream come true! Yay Mrs. Bailey!
