Moment Of Silence at Patriots Game for 17 Year Old
Sad news today, as we learn of the passing of 17 year old Sam Berns of Foxboro, MA. Sam suffered from a rare aging disease, Progeria, that he was diagnosed with at 22 months old. The average lifespan for someone with Progeria is just 13 years old. The HBO documentary 'Life According To Sam' was based on his life.
Sam was a lifelong New England Patriots fan, and made friends with many of the players as well as Patriots owner, Robert Kraft. Kraft was very supportive and generous to Sam, and last year he matched $500,000 in donations for Progeria research.
Sam was to be named an honorary captain in tonight's playoff game. Unfortunately he passed away last night. The Patriots will be honoring him tonight before the game with a moment of silence.
