Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution on Titanic Expedition
Congratulations to WHOI Tech, they will be participating in a 2018 expedition to the passenger liner of the Titanic.
Resting 12,000 feet underwater, WHOI scientists will be diving down in this expedition and teaming up with OceanGate Expeditions to document and assess the condition of the wreck.
According to Cape Cod Times, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution scientists will be providing imaging and lighting equipment in hopes of documenting the wreck and capturing images and then creating a 3D photographic model of the wreck after the expedition is over.
The Titanic sank on April 15, 1912, after hitting an iceberg on its journey from Southampton, England, to New York City. 15,000 people were killed.
This expedition will be the first manned submersible trip to the ship since 2005 and the teams will NOT be collecting artifacts from the cite.
