A crash occurred this afternoon in Westport involving a school bus carrying students.

Det. Sgt. Bryan McCarthy told WBSM News that at about 3:45 p.m. this afternoon, the Westport Police Department received numerous calls, both via 911 and on the department’s business line, to report a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of State Road and Washington Street involving a school bus and a sedan.

McCarthy said police and fire rescue units arrived on the scene and determined there were no major injuries.

He said the school bus was occupied by Westport students at the time of the crash, but that none of them were injured.

The two occupants of the sedan were transported to local hospitals for minor injuries.

Traffic in the area was shut down for about one hour, McCarthy said. He said the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
