Why WaterFire Continues to Thrive
WaterFire Providence has been able to continue throughout decades thanks to its volunteers and community donations. "Your support and help can ensure WaterFire continues to illuminate Providence for another 500 lightings," Evans said.

How WaterFire Became a Providence Icon
The first-ever lighting was held on New Year's Eve 1994 in celebration of the 10th anniversary of First Night Providence, a well-known arts festival that capped off the year and welcomed a new one.
Evans' art installation symbolized the renaissance of the city. Now, more than 80 braziers illuminate the Providence River throughout the summer, bringing in thousands of spectators from around the world.
