This weekend, Wareham High School greeted the new Viking Branch of the Plymouth County Teachers Federal Credit Union.

This summer, it was decided that Wareham High School would partner with PCT to open up a bank inside of the school store, 'The Ship'.

The bank will provide a teller when the bank is open, but the arrangement is that the High School will also be providing over 12 interns. This will give DECA students, or students in the business program, an opportunity to work inside of a bank and graduate high school with the ability to get a job as a bank teller.

The grand opening for the public on Friday was a huge success. The Principal of Wareham High School, Scott Paladino, opened the event with a ribbon cutting and speech about the future for the organization.

After the ribbon was cut, teachers became the first customers of the bank. They were helped by Wareham High School senior, Joseph Nash, who began working at the main location at the end of his sophomore year. Joe says "[My experience working at the credit union] has been great. It has really helped me decide where I want to go in life and where I want to go in business. Before my job I knew I wanted to go into business but I wasn't sure where I was going to take it. This has helped me decide I am going to peruse a career in finance." He also says " I am really excited about the other students interning at the Viking Branch because I think it will help kids learn about their finances and help them be financially stable in the future. I think it will be a great experience for the entire school system."
