‘Ugly Sweater’ Prices Are Ugly [OPINION]
The price to party this Holiday just doubled.
Tis the season for all the Facebook invites to 'Ugly Sweater' pub crawls and house parties and I'm not even ready. I've been having trouble finding not only the 'perfect' sweater... but the least expensive sweater, which is starting to look like an impossibility at this point.
Everybody knows that the go-to place to shop for the ugliest of the ugly sweaters is at Savers. I mean, you're probably never going to wear the sweater again, so why not just buy it cheap and toss it afterwards or donate it back (that is of course if you manage to not stain it with skunked beer). Unfortunately, there's a setback to this plan....
While shopping around for the hidden treasures that hide amongst the assorted racks of clothes at Savers, I noticed that any sweater that had any resemblence to an 'ugly sweater' was a whopping $20-$30. Yes, you read that correctly. A measley $3-$4 sweater was now being charged a double digit amount. Rediculous!
That's when I went to Plan B: Wal-Mart. I've shopped there multiple times in the past for holiday party sweaters and found great prices around 10 bucks or so. Although, things were a little different this time around. As I shopped around, the sweaters stood out like a sore-thumb, all marked between 20-30 dollars! WHAT?! That's when I threw in the white flag.
Now, I understand the concept of supply and demand, but this is just bonkers. The cause of death of 'Ugly Sweater' pub crawls and holiday affairs will be from a greedy market system out to get penny pinchers.
'Ugly Sweater' prices are downright U-G-L-Y!
