TIVERTON, RHODE ISLAND (WBSM) — Police in Tiverton are asking for the public’s help in identifying a deceased dog whose remains were found inside a storage bin floating in the water earlier this month.

Discovery Near Tiverton Yacht Club

According to police, a 27-gallon black and red storage bin was found at about 4:24 p.m. on September 1 in the water near the Tiverton Yacht Club, located at 58 Riverside Drive. Officers found the remains of a deceased dog inside the bin.

Police said the dog was “wrapped in a red button-down long-sleeve shirt, along with three bags of ice and a pillow.”

How Police Described the Dog

The dog was described as “an approximately eight-year-old unspayed female, possibly a labrador/pit bull mix.” She was black with a small white patch of fur on her chest, and weighed between 60 and 80 pounds.

“No microchip, tattoos, or identifying markings were found,” police said. “Based on an initial inspection, it is possible the canine may have been, or was recently, pregnant.”
