Tiverton’s Pine House Restaurant Expands With Second Location in Portsmouth
Just over two years after opening Pine House Kitchen & Bar in Tiverton, owner Jared Machado is already writing his next chapter.
Machado is expanding his food operation across the bridge to Portsmouth, where he’ll soon run the kitchen at Montaup Country Club under a new name: Iron & Oak Kitchen.
While the name is different, Machado said the philosophy behind the food will feel very familiar.
Same Pine House Quality, New Setting
“It’s definitely expanding,” Machado said. “It’s gonna be the same quality of food, everything made from scratch.”
The main difference between Pine House and Iron & Oak comes down to the bar. Montaup Golf Course will continue to control beverage service, which led Machado to create a new identity for the kitchen rather than calling it a second Pine House.
“If I had the bar, then I would name it a second Pine House,” he explained. “But I want it to be affiliated. You might not have the same margarita or espresso martini there, but the food’s gonna be the same great quality.”
Iron & Oak Kitchen will focus heavily on events and catering, something the golf course setting is a perfect venue for.
“We’re focusing a lot on events, parties, baby showers, weddings, catering, all those kinds of things,” Machado said.
Fish Fry Fridays and Seafood Specials
The new kitchen also gives Machado room to lean into some different menu strengths.
Without Pine House’s heavy focus on pizza, the Montaup location allows him to build a strong fried food and seafood program, including a weekly feature that many SouthCoast diners will appreciate.

“A fish fry Friday as well,” Machado said. “I’ve got a really good setup for a fry station there, so we’ll be doing a lot of strong seafood on Fridays.”
That timing couldn’t be better with the Lenten season, as seafood specials are especially popular across the SouthCoast.

Handpicked Opportunity
Machado didn’t chase the Montaup opportunity. It actually came to him.
According to Machado, someone connected to the golf course had already been a fan of Pine House’s food and brought his name forward when the course began looking for someone to run its kitchen.
“He came here, and loved my food,” Machado said. “He was running against about four or five different restaurants and kind of just picked me.”

Montaup Golf Course also invested in upgrading the kitchen before Machado came on board.
“They pretty much remodeled everything, brand new equipment, got it ready to go,” he said. “So it’s a whole new thing.”
Now Hiring and Already Booking Events
Iron & Oak Kitchen is already booking events before officially ramping up operations and is also actively hiring for both locations.
“We’re definitely looking for help,” he said. “All positions.”
Meanwhile, back at Pine House Kitchen & Bar, Machado says he hopes to expand the concept even further by eventually introducing breakfast service.
“As soon as I get the right help, I want to launch breakfast here, at least Thursday through Sunday,” he said.
For now, the focus is getting Iron & Oak Kitchen fully up and running, a project that’s only about a nine-minute drive from Pine House, making it easy for Machado to manage both spots.
“I’m pretty much going to make everything here,” he said. “This will be like my factory, and I’ll bring everything over there.”
Stay tuned, something delicious is on the way.
