Tiverton Animal Control Rescue Dozens of Cats From Unsafe Home
TIVERTON (WBSM) — Dozens of cats have been rescued in a home in Tiverton following investigation of unsafe conditions.
On July 9, the Tiverton Animal Control Officer and Tiverton Police responded to 51 Adams Street for a report of five litters of kittens and several adult cats living inside the home.
Upon further investigation, the ACO found five adult cats and 16 kittens inside the home, which led officers to believe adult cats also ran from the home.
Officers reported the inside of the home to be unsanitary and unsafe. The Tiverton Code Enforcement Officer also determined that the house was uninhabitable.
According to Code Enforcement, the residents were ordered to vacate the home until the code violations were corrected.
The Tiverton ACO, with assistance from the Portsmouth ACO and the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, successfully removed the cats from the home.
They have since been transported to the facility.
Officials say that foster care homes will be needed for the cats. They will receive about six weeks of treatment before they are ready for adoption.
The case remains under investigation by the Tiverton Animal Control Officer.
