There’s a Proper Way to Order Coffee at Dunkin’

In New England, we say “I love you” by having our loved one’s Dunkin coffee order memorized. Reddit is here to remind you that there truly is a proper way to order coffee beverages at Dunkin, and it would be great if we can all get on the same page.

In July of 2020, Reddit user “u/giseleea” posted a thread on the site titled “how to order?” “I seriously don’t understand how to order their coffee? Like, what are the differences between flavor shots and swirls? If I add a swirl should I still add cream and sugar?”

This is a very good question as I know many get confused with all of the options. According to DunkinDonuts.com, flavor shots are unsweetened and sugar-free while flavor swirls are sweet, creamy, and indulgent. One user called ‘Vombatidae36” suggested thinking of swirls as “flavored sweetened condensed milk" and I think that sums it up perfectly.

So, if you have a sweet tooth like me, stick to the swirls. Just don’t add cream and sugar to avoid the extra calories and impending stomach ache. If you prefer your coffee to actually taste like coffee and not a candy bar, you can add shots of flavor, but add creamer/milk and sweetener as needed.

It’s also important to note that how you place the order is just as important as what you get. Try stating your preference in this order:

1. Size
2. Hot or Iced
3. Type (coffee, latte, etc.)
4. Flavor
5. Cream and Sugar (regular, black, etc.)

So my typical order is a medium iced coffee, with a caramel swirl, and black. Just in case anyone was wondering.
