It was a great day for the Somerset Police Department after being crowned the cornhole champions of Bristol County.

On Thursday, June 1st, the Children's Advocacy Center of Bristol County called upon the best of the best from the area's police departments, fire departments, EMS, the department of corrections, friends of the CAC, members of the DA's office, and the DCF to go one-on-one in a cornhole tournament. This is the very first tournament for the CAC and it was held at the Buzzard's Bay Brewery in Westport.

This took the place of the popular wing-eating competition that was held for years at Whites of Westport, and the CAC is looking forward to many more years to come. 42 departments registered for the cornhole tournament and 33 teams showed up for a shot to win the championship.

"We couldn't be more grateful to our partners that help us protect kids," Children's Advocacy Center of Bristol County Co-Executive Director Lara Stone said, "We always call this a "friend-raising event" because it's raising awareness about our mission and saying thank you to the people who make this possible."

One by one, teams advanced and got knocked out of the tournament until it was down to the final two: Somerset Police Department Vs Rehoboth Police Department. In the end, it was Lt Matt Reis and Sgt Nick Davidson who took first place against Rehoboth's Arthur Beaudoin and Terry Hedrick.

Reis and Davidson will have a full year of bean bag tossing bragging rights, but most importantly, they were able to spread awareness to help local families throughout Bristol County. The Children's Advocacy Center of Bristol County works to empower children and families to heal from the trauma of abuse and violence through community partnerships, education, and the pursuit of justice.
