In December 2020, the life of a Westport school teacher and her family took an unexpected turn when her husband was diagnosed with Bone Cancer after seeking medical attention for persistent leg pain.

Fast forward to January 2023, and the prognosis has become even more challenging, with a life expectancy of 6-12 months. There's no easy way to pot it- this local family is facing an emotional and financial struggle as they navigate this difficult journey.

The couple shares the joys and responsibilities of parenting two young daughters, both enrolled in the Westport Community School system – one in Pre-School and the other in Kindergarten. As they confront the reality of their situation, the community has rallied together to provide them with a glimmer of hope and joy during these trying times with a cornhole tournament fundraiser.

The Goal: A Trip to DisneyWorld

Friends, family, and compassionate individuals in the Westport community have initiated a fundraising campaign to send this deserving family on a memorable trip to Disney World in Orlando, Florida. The goal is to offer them a break from the challenges they face daily and create lasting memories they'll be able to cherish.

The fundraising target is set at over $11,000, a substantial amount that will cover travel expenses, accommodation, and other associated costs. While a portion of the funds has already been raised, the community is reaching out for additional support to make this dream trip a reality.

Save the Date for the Cornhole Tournament Extravaganza

To bolster the fundraising efforts, a Cornhole Tournament is scheduled for March 9th. This event promises a day of fun and camaraderie, with activities for all ages. Local businesses are invited to contribute by sponsoring the tournament, and their support will be recognized prominently during the event.

The tournament venue will be filled with entertainment, including a raffle table with exciting prizes, delectable food and drinks for sale, face painting for kids, uplifting music, and much more. Prizes await the top three teams in the Cornhole Tournament, adding a competitive edge to the festivities.

How You Can Help

If you are touched by this family's story and wish to contribute, donations by check can be made out to Melissa Avila (mavila@westportschools.org) or Amy Arruda (aarruda@westportschools.org). Additionally, if you have a gift or gift card you'd like to donate for the raffle table, the organizers would be immensely appreciative. They are willing to arrange for pickup if necessary.

Every contribution, big or small, brings this family one step closer to the magical Disney World experience they deserve. Your generosity is not only a financial support but also a gesture of solidarity during a challenging time.

The organizers express their heartfelt thanks for any donations and warmly invite everyone to participate in the Cornhole Tournament on March 9th. Your presence and support will undoubtedly make a significant impact on this family's journey.

Let's come together as a community and make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.
