SWANSEA (WBSM) — One person is under arrest and another suspect is sought in connection with an attempted armed robbery outside of a Swansea bank this afternoon.

According to Swansea Police, officers responded to 330 Swansea Mall Drive (Route 118) at about 12:50 p.m. today for a reported attempted robbery.

Police said two men approached a courier making a drop at the BayCoast Bank, which was closed for the Presidents Day holiday. The two men allegedly showed a gun and demanded money from the courier.

Police said the courier fired two shots at the men, who then fled the scene in a U-Haul that was later discovered on fire on Reed Street.

According to police, the investigation showed that the two men allegedly left Reed Street in a Jeep, which was later stopped by Rhode Island State Police. At the time, only one person was in the vehicle.

The driver was identified as Giovany Fouyolle, 29, of Randolph, Massachusetts. He is currently being held as a fugitive from justice by Rhode Island State Police and will be extradited to Massachusetts.
