Swansea police detectives are teaming up with U.S. Secret Service agents to investigate a counterfeit scam where people are using fake $100 bills at local businesses.

According to The Herald News, Swansea Police Chief George Arruda stated that real $5 bills are being bleached and reprinted with the $100 bill graphics.

Arruda said that it is best to inspect the bill beforehand to make sure that it is legit. So far, the suspects have targeted two Dunkin Donuts and a Friendly’s restaurant in Swansea earlier this month. The same suspect, who has been identified as a white woman with blonde hair, seems to be responsible for two out of the three incidents. Arruda also said that detectives are looking over surveillance video footage to help identify the suspect.

Swansea police detective Patrick Mooney has already contacted the U.S. Secret Service, which investigates counterfeit currency cases.
