SWANSEA (1420 WBSM) — Police in Swansea are investigating after a 12-year-old was struck by a car while walking on a sidewalk this afternoon.

According to a release from Chief Marc Haslam, police received multiple 911 calls at around 2:20 p.m. about a pedestrian crash on Milford Road.

He said officers arrived to find the 12-year-old semi-conscious and lying in the road and suffering from serious injuries. Officers began providing aid until the juvenile could be transported by ambulance to Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence.

Haslam said the driver of the vehicle, an 18-year-old from Swansea, remained and the scene and cooperated with police.

It appears the victim “was walking on the sidewalk/bike lane when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle causing the vehicle to jump the curb and hit the victim,” Haslam said.

The crash remains under investigation.
