Stay-At-Home DIY Paint Night Is the Perfect Date Idea
Whether you're in a comfortable relationship or kicking off a new fling, I have the perfect date night idea, and it doesn't require you to leave your couch.
When my fiancee and I had the day off, we scrambled to find something to do, somewhere to go, but came up short on ideas.
Every time we found something remotely interesting to do together, the business would be closed or too far away.
We just about gave up, until a lightbulb went off. Before we knew it, the perfect day was planned and the stress melted away.
If you haven't indulged in a paint night, I highly suggest adding it to your bucket list. Unfortunately, for us, there wasn't anything available on the day we shared time off.
We had to improvise.
Suddenly, DIY Paint Night was in full effect.
The day kicked off with a light breakfast, followed by a hearty lunch at one of our favorite burger joints. While waiting for our food, we watched an online tutorial on YouTube for painting the perfect couple's mural.
Once our bellies were pleased, we made our way to Ocean State Job Lot and picked up a couple of 11-by-14-inch canvases, the colors recommended for the painting (the YouTube video instructed which acrylics to use), a couple of paintbrush sets and some plastic table toppers to protect the furniture from the paint.
From the comfort of our couch, we turned on the TV and put on this video:
The step-by-step instructions were rather simple, but the technique was somewhat challenging for me as I've never painted before. The entire time I had the wise voice of Bob Ross in the back of my head telling me, "There's no such thing as mistakes, just happy accidents."
I rolled with that.
As I took control of the right canvas, my fiancee painted the left, and soon we'd join them together to complete the mural. Our final product came out looking like this and I'll admit, it's not too shabby.
Sure, there are some flaws on my side with my comets that look more like the apocalypse, but that's not what matters. What matters is that we had fun painting together and spending time with each other while doing something different. Work is always going to get in the way and life as we know it is constantly busy. So, take advantage of the little things and continue to create those everlasting memories.
A couple of brush strokes were just what the doctor ordered and the perfect way to spend the day with the one I love most. The next time you're looking for a date night idea, fill that void with food, paint and a blank canvas and you'll thank me later.
