According to a state Department of Elementary & Secondary Education report, Westport Schools could use a curriculum director to help guide the district.

According to WickedLocal, the report, which is more than 40 pages, was based on a DESE visit in June. It shows the district's strengths such as the positive learning culture, educator evaluation and environment and the great leadership from individuals. One recommendation is the needed coordination of all schools as an entire system

School Committee member Antonio Viveiros said "The common denominator in this report is we do need a curriculum director, and that is very clear. We can talk and have a meeting and do a lot of other things and we can sing and dance but we need a curriculum director".

School superintendent, Ann Marie Dargon, was suggested to look into funds available for the position because it would be best if a curriculum director was added to the school district staring this year.  Westport Federation of Teachers Union president, Andrew Cottrill, encouraged the committee to act on the DESE report.

There are  concerns about initiatives that could cost extra money for the district with the transition. Some of the unexpected expenses include things such as higher special education costs.

There is a meeting scheduled on December 5, 2015 to go over goal setting for the district.
