WESTPORT (WBSM) — A woman was killed Monday night after being struck by a vehicle while walking on the side of Interstate 195 in Westport.

According to Massachusetts State Police, the woman had exited an as-yet-unknown vehicle in the breakdown lane of I-195 eastbound in the area of mile marker 15.7 at around 10:05 p.m. on April 15 and began walking down the right travel lane.

At the same time, a 2010 Ford Fusion was driving in that lane and struck the woman as she was walking.

She was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her name is not being released at this time.

State Police said the driver and passenger of the Ford were unharmed and remained on the scene. They said the driver of the unknown vehicle from which the woman had exited fled the scene after the crash.

Authorities are searching for the driver of that vehicle and said the crash remains under investigation.
