Start Naming ‘Three Good Things’ to Show Gratitude Right Now
On Saturday, July 13, 2019, Jeff Angeley of New Bedford committed to identifying three good things about his life every single day. On the one-year anniversary of this commitment, Jeff discussed the benefits of that choice.
“I'll tell you what I've gained from it: resilience in times of difficulty through the ability to reframe my experiences, an awareness, and a greater understanding of the little and big things that create happiness, undeniably improved mental and physical health, and an even greater desire to seek out the good and create more good around me."
Angeley opened the challenge to the public. He started the “Three Good Things” Facebook group so others could practice gratitude. The page is quickly gaining popularity on the SouthCoast, with over a thousand members since the group was published on Monday, July 13, 2020.
“This page was created as a space for people to share three good things from their day. You don't have to post daily to participate. And, for that matter, you can journal your 3 privately and just follow the good news here for inspiration. If you do share with the group, it's on your own terms; Simple text lists are great, photos and videos are good, as well, or maybe you want to post drawings or haiku? Get creative with it, or keep it simple. Whatever you choose, try to keep it going because gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve both their mental and physical health, deal with adversity, build strong relationships, and generally live happier lives.”
Angeley is appreciative of the response that the page has received so far. "I'm honestly overwhelmed by how many people have already joined the group." It just goes to show you that gratitude is everything.
