A new group is inviting SouthCoast residents to get out and socialize.

"I grew accustomed to a lifestyle where being outdoors and socializing through wellness activities was the norm," said Hanna Franklin, recalling her years living in South Carolina.

How Sunset Social Started

A college friend created Sunset Social in Charleston. The idea took off and after the winter, especially the Blizzard of 2026, Hanna saw the need for something similar here in New England.

Why the SouthCoast Needed This Group

"While the SouthCoast has no shortage of young adults, there is a lack of dedicated, low-pressure spaces for us to meet, get active, and support the local community," Franklin said.

Thus, the Sunset Social SouthCoast branch was born.

The group is pressure-free and open to all. "We are intentionally shying away from the 'hardcore run club' stigma. Instead, we are focused on an inclusive vibe where the goal is simply to move and connect," Franklin said.

What to Expect at Meetups

"While we start with walks, our roadmap may include pickleball, kickball, beach yoga, and other activities, and will be discussed and decided as a group as to what we pursue," Franklin said.

Supporting Local Businesses

The meetups are designed to end at local establishments to help pour resources back into small businesses.

"Our goal is simple: to bring the community together, help people meet outside of a screen, and enjoy the beautiful SouthCoast landscape we call home," Franklin said.
