Stop & Shop pharmacies across the SouthCoast and beyond have been dealing with a system outage since early Wednesday afternoon. Representatives from both Fairhaven Stop & Shop and the Dartmouth Street New Bedford Stop & Shop confirmed that the issue is company-wide.

"We're not able to fill any prescriptions at this time," said a representative from the Dartmouth Stop & Shop pharmacy. "Our mainframe systems are down. We have been down since Wednesday afternoon at roughly 1:30 p.m. We’re not able to do anything."

It was business as usual, however, at the grocery sections of the Stop & Shop locations we spoke with. They were able to process transactions normally with cash, credit, debit, and other forms of payment.

"We are advising patients in need of urgent medication to have their doctor call the prescription into another pharmacy, such as Walgreens or CVS."

Hannaford in Middleboro was also experiencing issues with its electronic payment system, which began on Wednesday afternoon. Hannaford is able to accept cash and credit card payments but cannot accept checks or debit cards that are not supported by Mastercard or Visa. These payment issues were also reported across all Hannaford locations.

A sign at the entrance of the Middleboro Hannaford reads, "Our self-checkout registers can only accept cash, credit cards, and signature debit cards that can also be used as credit cards."

Walgreens and CVS appeared to be operating as usual. It is unclear if the issues at Hannaford and Stop & Shop are related in any way.
