Smartfood and Cap’n Crunch Teamed Up and This Is How It Tasted
Nobody predicted a popcorn company and a cereal company collaborating, but it's 2020 and here we are.
Last Friday, I took a drive to Walgreen's over on Kempton Street to pick up a few things. The problem with me and a Walgreens or a CVS or any convenience store is that I can never go in just for what I need; I always leave with more than expected.
Like this bag of Smartfood popcorn that has Cap'n Crunch Crunch Berries in it. *cue the eyeball emoji*
I'll confess, curiosity got the best of me with this one and I'm somewhat ashamed for buying junk food, but how could I pass up two of my favorite snacks as a kid combined into one? Not to mention the bright and flashy blue bag was a beacon for my hungry eyes.
I got home, plopped my butt on the couch and decided to record my reaction as I gave the popcorn-cereal mixture a try.
The moment it hit my tastebuds, I knew that something was off, and it was the popcorn. That cheesy white cheddar goodness that I'm so very fond of was absent and instead, I was eating something similar to kettle corn. It was sweet instead of cheesy and I was a bit disappointed.
You're probably wondering about the crunch berries. They tasted just like the cereal, but there just wasn't enough of them. The popcorn-to-crunch berry ratio was weak and before you ask if perhaps the berries were sitting on the bottom of the bag, I finished the bag and still found the number of crunch berries to be inadequate.
As for the overall flavor, it wasn't terrible but did not exactly live up to my expectations. Should you try it for yourself? Sure, I don't see why not. After all, we all have our own unique tastebuds.
My final thoughts are this: to the makers of Smartfood and Cap'n Crunch, if there was anything I could have changed about your product, it's to keep the same delicious white cheddar flavor of the popcorn and add more crunch berries. I'm not asking for much, just a minor tweak in your genius mashup of sweet and salty goodness.
