SouthCoast Favorite Breakfast Spots and Orders
It's the most important meal of the day.
Though breakfast is typically eaten in the morning, you can enjoy your favorites any time of day even at local restaurants. Pancakes for dinner? Why not?
There's nothing like a local diner serving up homecooked favorites, pouring coffee into hefty mugs, serving plates atop a paper placemat featuring ads for local businesses and a menu that might be a little sticky from syrup.
Breakfast History
The concept of breakfast dates back to ancient Egypt when workers would consume a medley of soup, beer, bread and onions before heading out to work for the pharaohs.
Ancient Rome had its own version of breakfast. Many enjoyed bread, cheese, olives, salad, nuts, raisins and even cold meats from the night before. Soldiers ate porridge made from barley or wheat, cooked in a cauldron of water.
Luckily we have far better choices on present-day menus.

Popular Breakfast Items
Maybe it's a classic combo of bacon and eggs that catches your eye. Perhaps an omelet chock-full of your favorite meats and veggies paired with a crispy, crunchy, buttery side of toast. Or maybe jam is more your, well, jam.
Not a fan of savory breakfast? How does a giant stack of pancakes sound? Or French toast covered in powdered sugar with fresh, sliced strawberries?
We asked our friends on Facebook to share their favorite local breakfast spots and what they're ordering.
Bon appétit!
