U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren took a brief tour of the South Coast on Wednesday, visiting Fall River before stopping by the Groundwork small business space on Purchase Street in New Bedford.

City officials and local business owners were on hand to speak about current and future programs helping small businesses grow.

Senator Warren said that New Bedford's economic growth depends on the local entrepreneurs who live and work in the city.

She also said that New Bedford needs updated infrastructure to reach it's potential, emphasising the ongoing railroad project.

"If we had South Coast Rail, New Bedford would have more jobs, more industry, more going on right now," Senator Warren tells WBSM News.

Senator Mark Montigny echoed those remarks, saying he wouldn't support any repairs to the train systems if they don't include expanding to New Bedford.

"New Bedford is doing its part. Its got the ideas, its got the energy, its got the vision, but it needs the basic infrastructure. It needs a good parter in Washington," Senator Warren said.

In her stop in Fall River, Senator Warren joined Mayor Sam Sutter and other local officials to discuss the importance of assistance programs for low income families.
