Sedated Man Accidentally Records Doctor Who Insults Him During A Colonoscopy
Someone is now $500,000 richer after suing a doctor with name calling and cruel insults during a colonoscopy procedure.
The man from Virginia recorded the doctor who made cruel comments to him while he was anesthetized during a colonoscopy. He claimed he set the phone to record, so that he would be able to remember the post procedure instructions given by the doctor.
According to Buzz Feed News, the recording captured anesthesiologist Tiffany Ingham, calling the man names, such as “annoying,” and a “wuss.”
Ingham also said to the patient that she wanted to punch him in the face and man him up a bit.
Earlier this month, a three-day trial was held and jurors had the chance to hear the recordings during the procedure. In the recordings, the jurors heard the doctors discussing to avoid the man after the procedure and an assistant was told to lie to him.
The jury ruled that the doctor must pay $50,000 of the $200,000 in punitive damages awarded to the plaintiff.
In addition to the punitive damages, the man was awarded $50,000 for each of the comments made about having syphilis and tuberculosis. He was also awarded with an additional $200,000 for medical malpractice.
The man originally requested $1.75 million, but a compromise of $500,000 was settled between two disagreeing jurors.
